|Summary of the proposed Action :
||Small and Micro Enterprises (SMEs) experience constraints in businesses due to inappropriate or ineffective government policies and/or markets that function poorly. The fragmented nature of the business associations in Ghana makes it difficult for them to articulate their requirements and concerns with sufficient coherence and carrying power for public authorities to respond.
PEF proposes to organize SMEs (through the formation of District Business Coalitions) to identify key policy issues or private sector practices affecting their businesses, and to advocate effectively for change.
The aim is to engage SMEs in effective self-representation by helping them to organize and advocate a specific issue and develop their capacity to accomplish that goal. Once they succeed with an issue, PEF will continue to build capacity around other issues. This will enable the SMEs to address a range of concerns in the policy and market environments and increase their capacity to do so independently.
The expected impact of the Action is enhanced capacity of trade and business associations at the district level to advocate business issues for improved governance and sustainable growth of district and regional economies.
