Summary of the proposed Action : (a) The need, or the constraint to alleviate
  • The rights of Disabled Workers are not well known by the disabled workers and their various employers, and therefore not adhered to. Also the New Labour Act with its possibilities for financial support for private employers who employ disabled workers and the duties of the District Assemblies to ensure access for disabled people to education and to jobs seems to be unknown.
Hence the need to educate the partners on issues concerning the rights of Disabled Workers
  • (b). The proposed solution to the identified need or constraint your achievement

  • Education seems to be the prime solution, so after negotiations with the other parties in GEA and in the Ministries, a programme and some materials will be developed to train regional executives to work as trainers in their various regions. The training will be effectuated and at the end of the training a sensitising campaign will be launched to boost the work at all levels.
  • (c). The implementation plan to achieve the solution your Action

  • The first two activities are negotiations with the partners to identify what should be written in the training material. After that all the materials will be developed (training material, leaflet for districts and handouts) before the training of regional executives can take place. When they go back to educate workers they will be supported by a media information campaign targeting the general public in order to enforce the existing laws.
  • (d). The expected impact(s) of the advocacy Action (i.e. the effects of the result(s) achieved by your Action).
  • The action is expected to ensure awareness on all levels of the Ghanaian society of the problems and the remedies for disabled workers. Which should mean a higher level of responsibility to ensure the rights and enforce the existing laws.
