Summary of the proposed Action : (a) The need, or the constraint to alleviate
Unlike the employees in the Government institutions the employees of the Private Health Institutions (PHIs) in Ghana do not always enjoy the basic rights as workers according to the new Labour Act. Since, however, the PHIs of Ghana will be part of the new National Health Insurance Scheme it will be necessary to address this issue to avoid potential problems or conflicts.

(b) The proposed solution to the identified need or constraint your achievement

  • To sensitise the employees and the management of the PHIs about rights and obligations as partners under the new Labour Act.
  • To create awareness about the benefits for safeguarding rights of workers.
  • To educate the employees and the management of the PHIs about the new National Health Insurance Scheme
  • (c) The implementation plan to achieve the solution your Action
    The first activities are negotiations with the partners to identify the constraints and to remove them for the work to continue. After that the leaflet will be developed and the training of officers will take place. When they go to the PHIs they will be supported by a media information campaign.

    (d) The expected impact(s) of the advocacy Action (i.e. the effects of the result(s) achieved by your Action).
    The management and the employees of PHIs should be well aware of their roles; their rights and their obligations. Besides it is expected that the understanding of the differences of private and public sector will increase the capacity of the HSWU to work with the private sector
