|Summary of the proposed Action :
||(a) The need, or the constraint to alleviate
Answer: We want to strengthen the mushroom farmers associations in the Brong Ahafo region for a formation of a Coalition of Mushroom Farmers Associations (CMFA) to effectively advocate to the Food Research Institute (FRI) for certification for the establishment of a spawn production laboratory in the region.
(b) The proposed solution to the identified need or constraint your achievement
We expect to have the mandate from FRI to establish a spawn production laboratory after meeting and dialoguing with them. We also want to organize all mushroom farmers in the region into a Coalition of Mushroom Farmers Associations (CMFA) in the region which will effectively advocate for whatever shall improve the mushroom industry in the region of which the spawn production laboratory is paramount.
(c) The implementation plan to achieve the solution your Action
(d) The expected impact(s) of the advocacy Action (i.e. the effects of the result(s) achieved by your Action).
We shall visit the mushroom farmers associations and some individual farmers in the region and conduct situational analysis of the effects of the unavailability of quality spawns on the expansion of their businesses and the mushroom industry. We shall then use workshop situation to facilitate the formation of the CMFA after a general discussion of the compiled problems they face. We shall then build the advocacy capacity of the coalition which shall use the issues to draw an advocacy plan targeted at FRI. Using roundtable discussions on the issues, and dialogue, the coalition shall advocate the FRI for certification for the establishment of the spawn laboratory though with quality control still in the hands of FRI just as the Food and Drugs Board and the Ghana Standards Board certifies other products. We will also organize seminars on the uses of mushroom (ie various products mushroom can be used to produce) for the Ghana Traditional Caterers Association members, pasterers and the general public. Lastly, we shall use radio talk shows and meetings with women associations to sensitize women to enter into mushroom farming. .
There will be an establishment of at least one spawn production laboratory which will enable all mushroom farmers in the region and beyond to have constant supply of adequate and quality spawns for mushroom production. Additionally, with the coalition in place, we can support the establishment of additional spawn production laboratories in other parts of the region and the impact of such a move on our businesses cannot be over emphasized.
