||The need, or the constraint to alleviate
In Ghana and in the whole of West Africa a large number of people learn to produce Batik and Tie & Dye. Some learn the job in two-three weeks as part of job training or poverty-alleviation programmes, others are apprentices for several months. This and the fact that Batik is produced with chemicals that have to be applied correctly means that the quality of the products varies enormously, often with the negative effect that people stop buying Batik after acquiring a bad product.
The proposed solution to the identified need or constraint your achievementOne of the reasons BATMAG was formed was to develop the quality of the products, and consequently we have had regular contacts with Ghana Standards Board to find ways to indicate the difference between quality goods and more inferior goods. We believe that the solution is definition of quality, appointment of quality controllers, training of these controllers, development of a stamp to be used on materials that are up to the standard, and advertising the new quality guarantee.
The implementation plan to achieve the solution your ActionFirst a description/definition of quality, then development of the training programme, development of the stamp, and creation of a way to advertise the new stamp; then appointment of controllers, training of controllers and finally a campaign.
The expected impact(s) of the advocacy Action (i.e. the effects of the result(s) achieved by your Action).
The recognition by Ghana Standards Board may lead to new ways of working with the business associations; i.e. more direct collaboration between the partners.
