Traditional weavers and sellers of Ghana’s rich symbol of culture (Kente) do not have a market center for undertaking their business activities. Both the weavers and the sellers currently undertake their business activities along the roadsides of the main streets in the Ntonso township.

(b) The proposed solution to the identified need or constraint your achievement
The Association is of the belief that by demarcating a site within the district for a Kente Tourist Centre would enable all weavers to congregate thereby making it easier to be identified by tourists and promoters of the industry.

(c) The implementation plan to achieve the solution your Action
The Association understands the complexities in acquiring land for such purposes since lands are duly vested in family heads, chiefs and other traditional authorities. The Association will engage the traditional authorities, the Kwabre District Assembly and other stakeholders in discussions for the approval of a suitable site a central market. The Association will further engage the District Assembly to make budgetary allocations over a period of time to assist in putting up the Centre. The Association will also look beyond the District to advocate the Ministry of Tourism for resources to promote tourism in the district. Members will be convinced to make monthly contributions towards the creation of the centre.

(d) The expected impact(s) of the advocacy Action (i.e. the effects of the result(s) achieved by your Action).
  • Increased the revenue generation by the District Assembly from the weavers and seller as it will be one stop shop for tax collection.
  • Reduced exposure of the members of the Association to the dangers associated with doing business along the streets.
  • Serve as a one stop shop for Kente in the district in particular and the region in general.
  • Improved tourist attraction.
  • Increased in wealth creation.
  • Increased in healthy internal and external competition among the weavers and sellers.
