The Human Rights Advocacy Centre (HRAC) would organise a sensitisation forum for market women in the Greater Accra Region, on Tuesday, February 14.
Nana Oye Lithur, Executive Director of HRAC, in a statement issued in Accra copied to GNA said the forum would educate market women on human rights, custody and child support for children of single mothers, domestic violence, property rights, and gender based violence, sexual abuse of kayayei and other adolescent girls.
She said HRAC had targeted 600 market women and other participants from the Tema Station, Makola, Odorna, Agbogbloshie markets and their environs in the sensitising programme.
“The forum will promote access to justice among the indigent and vulnerable women and children in Ghana,” she added.
Nana Lithur explained that sensitising these women and building their capacity on human rights standards and highlighting abuses perpetrated against children and women in their communities, would help them assert and protect their rights and reduce violations that occurred in the market place and their communities.
HRAC is a non-profit, independent, non-partisan, research and advocacy organisation set up to advance and protect human rights in Ghana. GNA
