BUSAC FUND INDUCTED INTO CIMG HALL OF FAME AGAIN

The Business Sector Advocacy Challenge (BUSAC) Fund has been recognized once again by the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana (CIMG) for its unflinching support for private sector business advocacy in Ghana. For the fifth time in a row, the BUSAC Fund has been awarded the prestigious CIMG Hall of Fame accolade for being the "Not-for-Profit-Making Organization of the Year-2014".

The award is in recognition of the Fund's excellence in supporting private sector business advocacy to help create a more enabling business environment for the Ghanaian private sector.

A citation presented to the Fund stated that the Fund won the award for the fifth consecutive time because "it continues to be the light at the end of the tunnel to many a beneficiary through the basic advocacy training sessions that put them on the right footing to succeed. The Fund's policy changing initiatives continue to make waves and have brought significant impact on private sector growth."

The BUSAC Fund was accordingly inducted into the CIMG Hall of Fame for the third consecutive time at the colourful 26th Annual CIMG awards ceremony held at the Banquet Hall of the State House on Saturday, 19th September, 2015. A presentation of testimonials from selected BUSAC Fund beneficiary grantees was also screened at the function to the delight of the invitees.

Representing the Fund at the occasion were Mrs. Elizabeth J. Villars, Chairperson of the BUSAC Fund Steering Committee; Mr. Nicolas Roy-Bonde, DANIDA; Mr. Brian Conklin, Office of Economic Growth, USAID Ghana; Mr. Paolo Salvia, EU Delegation and the BUSAC Fund team.

The BUSAC Fund's fifth success at the annual CIMG event once again demonstrates its contribution towards the improvement of the Ghanaian business environment within a decade of its existence. In the year 2014, the BUSAC Fund awarded 27 invitational grants worth approximately GHC 3.35 million to business associations to advocate on key business policy issues of national importance. This support enabled these business associations to engage in evidence-based policy dialogue with public officials and other duty bearers in the year 2014.

A number of BUSAC Fund-sponsored grantees also achieved some remarkable results in the year 2014. Notable among them are the Ghana National Association of Poultry Farmers (GNAPF) who successfully advocated the implementation of the ECOWAS Common External Tariff (CET) of 35% on imported poultry products to enhance the competitiveness of the Ghanaian poultry industry and the Ghana Cocoa Coffee and Sheanut Farmers Association (GCCSFA) who also successfully advocated the re-introduction of the convenient akuafo cheque payment system for cocoa farmers.

The management and the entire BUSAC Fund team shares this noble achievement with its Funding Partners - DANIDA, USAID, and the EU -who provide the support needed to finance the services provided to the Fund's grantees.
